Mark Smit — senior .NET developer & architect

Over 18 years of experience with enterprise .NET, including Funda, Vodafone and T-Mobile. I modernise existing systems and teams from within — and now bring AI and LLM functionality into them.

The common thread: modernisation from within

My entire career follows the same pattern: an existing system, a team that has to keep building, and a next step that everyone sees coming but nobody dares to take. Prove it small first, then scale up.

  1. WebForms → MVC at Vodafone Thuis — first demonstrated with a single proof app, then a migration programme for the entire system
  2. SVN → Git at Vodafone Thuis — set up and carried out the migration
  3. Fortnightly releases → CI/CD at T-Mobile Thuis — plus a major refactoring towards an automated test suite
  4. No AI → AI — the fourth transition, which I immersed myself in during my sabbatical

What I help with

Senior .NET developer / architect

Development and architecture in existing enterprise landscapes: C#, .NET, web applications, APIs, CI/CD and automated tests. With team-lead experience: at T-Mobile Thuis the team grew from 6 to 20 developers, with me as technical lead for recruitment.

AI integration in .NET

Building LLM functionality into existing systems: triage, categorisation, summarisation, data extraction and RAG over company data. An approach under construction, backed by my own R&D project — not bought slides.

Teams effective with AI tooling

Within an assignment I help teams use AI tooling (Copilot, Claude Code, agents) effectively and responsibly — from adoption to guarding the architecture. Exactly where team-lead experience and daily AI practice meet.

Case: an AI-driven knowledge system

As my own R&D project I built a personal knowledge and productivity system in .NET: spoken notes enter the knowledge graph automatically via local Whisper transcription and LLM extraction with structured output, where vector search creates relations with existing knowledge.
